Excerpt from passage

The world is made up of many kinds of people. There are people who live in the cold of the Arctic and others who live in the heat of the desert. There are people from North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. All of these places are called continents.

A continent is a large mass of land that is bordered by water on at least one side. Every continent is made up of smaller countries or provinces. Each of these countries and provinces has their own culture, or way of life.

There are many customs and traditions that North Americans follow. A custom is a special tradition that people in different parts of the world follow all the time. A tradition is a special event that is specific to a culture. A tradition is celebrated at a certain time throughout the year.

In the United States there are many traditions that are not celebrated in other countries around the world. Americans celebrate the 4th of July and Labor Day. The rest of the world does not celebrate these traditional holidays. (Continued...)
