LESSON 5: How are Laws Enforced?

LAW ENFORCEMENT LESSON PLAN

Student Deliverables:

Teacher should have copies of the Lesson 5 story and handout (see below) to distribute to the class.

Sequence of Events:

• Distribute handouts. Read through the handouts as a class. Elicit student participation.

• Optional: Assign students to read particular parts, e.g. Mr. Green or "you."

• Read over the worksheet as a class. Be sure that students understand the laws.

• Let the students come up with enforcement methods on their own and come together to review. The enforcement methods can be brainstormed in small groups.

• Review answers as a class (key below). Discuss the different approaches to enforcement as suggested by students.

• Lead into the discussion question which transitions to the next lesson.

Student Tasks:

• To complete the worksheet portion of the handout using the story as reference.
