AND WHAT SHOULD IT DO?

LESSON 9: What are My Individual Rights?

Objectives:

This lesson continues to introduce elementary school children to the concepts of government and citizenship. It explains three types of individual rights and gives examples for each.

Student Learning Objectives:

  • Students should be able to explain the difference between personal, political and economic rights granted to them by various governments in their lives.

Suggested Grades:

3rd Grade - 4th Grade - 5th Grade

 

 

 

 

 

WHAT ARE MY INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS LESSON PLAN

Student Deliverables:

Teacher should have copies of the Lesson 9 story and handouts (see below) to distribute to the class.

Sequence of Events:

  • Distribute handouts. Read through the handouts as a class. Elicit student participation.

  • Have students fill in the boxes in the "overhead chart" as they read.

  • Read over the worksheet as a class. Be sure that students understand the tasks.

  • Students should complete the worksheet independently.

  • Review answers as a class (key below).

Student Tasks:

  • To complete the worksheet portion of the handout using the story as reference.

References/Resources:

This lesson reviews standards 1A-1F, covers standard 1G and begins standard 1H.
