then answer the questions about the story that follow. Discuss the
answers to the questions with the students.
Excerpt from passage
Since 1970, April 22nd has been designated as a special day for turning our attention to the environment and an appreciation of the planet we live on. April 22nd is Earth Day. By the time the first Earth Day was observed in 1970, many people had become aware that the Earth's resources were being misused and the environment was suffering. To call attention to the situation, a senator from Wisconsin named Gaylord Nelson organized the first Earth Day. His goal was to have events around the country to teach people how to better care for the Earth.
