One Step Equations:
Division

Students will learn how to solve one-step division equations with both negative and positive integers.

 

Objectives:

• Students will review solving one-step multiplication equations.

• Students will review the rules of dividing/multiplying positive and negative integers.

• Students will learn how to solve two different types of division equations.

• Students will practice solving the equations.

 

Suggested Grades:

Sixth Grade - Seventh Grade - Eighth Grade - Ninth Grade - including special education students

- "We have learned how to solve equations with addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Now we are going to learn how to solve the last kind - division."
- "Before we look at an example, let's review the rules for dividing negative numbers. Not all of the problems will have negatives in them, but some of them will."
- "Who can tell me the rules for dividing negative numbers?"
- On Board: A negative divided by a negative = a positive
A positive divided by a positive = a positive
A positive divided by a negative = a negative
