Students will learn how to add polynomials.

 

Objectives:

• Students will learn how to add binomials.

• Students will learn how to add trinomials.

• Students will learn how to organize the polynomials vertically.

• Students will review adding positive and negative numbers.

• Students will learn how to find the perimeter of a shape using polynomials.

• Students will practice all of these skills.

 

Suggested Grades:

Seventh Grade - Eighth Grade - Ninth Grade - Tenth Grade - including special education students

Adding Polynomials

- "Now we are ready to start adding polynomials. What is a polynomial?"
- Use a student volunteer to answer that a polynomial is a monomial or a series of monomials that are added or subtracted together.

- A binomial and a trinomial are also polynomials- binomial is two monomials added/subtracted together, and a trinomial is three monomials added/subtracted together.
- "Good, so here is an example."
