About this worksheet
An invitation is a short message that asks someone to come to an event. To be clear, it must answer five things: what the event is, who is hosting, when (date and time), where, and the RSVP (how and by when to reply). If a part is missing, the guest will not know how to come. This worksheet teaches students the parts of a clear invitation.
Section A gives eight details (‘Saturday at 3:00 PM’; ‘A pool party’) and asks students to name the invitation part each gives. The reference box teaches the parts with a birthday-party example whose exact wording is not reused in the items.
Section B asks students to list the five parts, write a WHEN line, explain why an RSVP matters, and write a short class-picnic invitation. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill is a practical, everyday form of writing.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and label the five parts on a sample invitation.
Complete Section A independently – have students match each detail to a part.
Work Section B item 12 together: write a short class-picnic invitation as a class.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
Pair with the Friendly Letter Worksheet or the Writing an Email Worksheet for a practical-writing mini-unit.
