About this worksheet
Writing an interview means asking a person thoughtful questions and recording what they say. The best questions are open-ended, so the person can explain instead of saying just yes or no. The writer starts with a short line telling who they talked to, then records each question and answer as a Q&A pair. This worksheet helps students learn the skill and plan an interview of their own.
Section A on page 1 asks eight short questions about how to write an interview. The reference box shows the form with an example interviewing a school librarian, so students have the information they need to answer.
Section B on page 2 has students choose a person, write open-ended questions, and draft a possible answer in the person’s voice. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds on writing questions and taking notes.
How to Use This Lesson

Discuss why open-ended questions work better than yes/no questions.
Complete Section A independently.
Have students plan their own interview in Section B.
