About this worksheet
An acrostic poem spells a word down the left side of the page, with each line beginning with the next letter and telling something about the topic. An acrostic does not need to rhyme. This worksheet helps students learn the form and write one of their own.
Section A on page 1 asks eight short questions about how an acrostic poem works. The reference box explains the form with a CAT example, so students have the information they need to answer.
Section B on page 2 has students pick a short topic word, write its letters down the side, and build poem lines from the first and last letters. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds on poetry writing.
