About this worksheet
The setting of a story is where and when it happens. A strong setting description uses the senses – sight, sound, smell, and touch – to help readers picture the scene and feel its mood. This worksheet helps students notice and use sense details when they describe a setting.
Section A on page 1 gives eight setting details – sparkling sunlight, crashing waves, salty sea air, cold damp sand, and more – and asks students to name the sense each one uses. The reference box teaches the idea with a vivid ‘dark, silent woods’ example that is not reused in any item.
Section B on page 2 asks students what a setting is, names two senses to use, rewrites a weak setting with sense details, and writes an original setting. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill completes the story elements with character and plot.
