About this worksheet
A riddle is a puzzle question that describes something with clues and asks the reader to guess what it is. The clues must be true, but they are written in a tricky or playful way so the answer is not too easy. This worksheet helps students learn how a riddle works and write one of their own.
Section A on page 1 asks eight short questions about riddles, including one riddle to solve. The reference box explains riddles with an egg example, so students have the information they need to answer.
Section B on page 2 has students pick an answer, write true clues about how it looks and what it does, and end with ‘What am I?’ Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds on creative writing and careful word choice.
