About this worksheet
A review tells readers what you think of something – a book, movie, game, or restaurant – so they can decide whether to try it. A good review has four parts: a short summary (no spoilers), an opinion, reasons that explain the opinion, and a recommendation. The key is giving reasons, not just saying ‘it was good.’ This worksheet teaches the parts and how to write them.
Section A gives eight review sentences and asks students to name which part each is: summary, opinion, reason, or recommendation. Items repeat each part so students practice all four. The reference box teaches the parts with its own example not reused in the items.
Section B is productive: students write a spoiler-free summary, an opinion, a supporting reason, and a recommendation about something they know. Page 3 is a complete answer key with samples. The skill teaches opinion writing backed by reasons and differs from the factual book report.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and name the four parts of a review in order.
Complete Section A independently – have students match each sentence to a part.
Work Section B together: build a short review of a class read-aloud, part by part.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check; accept any honest, reason-backed review.
Pair with the Book Report Worksheet or the Persuasive Writing Worksheet for a writing mini-unit.
