About this worksheet
A recipe is real-world procedural writing at its most useful: a title, a list of measured ingredients, and numbered steps that have to be in exactly the right order. Writing one teaches students to be precise, to sequence carefully, and to choose clear action verbs – skills that transfer to every kind of how-to writing.
Section A gives students 8 clues and a word bank, and asks them to write the matching recipe part (title, ingredients, steps, amount, action verbs). Section B guides composition: explain why exact amounts matter, write a snack title, list three measured ingredients, and write three ordered steps.
The reference box on page 1 explains the three main parts of a recipe and the role of amounts and action verbs. Section A is on page 1, Section B is on page 2, and page 3 is a complete answer key with the term for each clue and sample responses for Section B.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and look at a real recipe, pointing out the title, ingredients, and steps.
Work Section A independently, using the word bank to match each clue.
Move to Section B and have students choose a simple, familiar snack to write about.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or aide spot-check.
