About this worksheet
A memoir is a true story from the writer’s own life that focuses on one meaningful memory rather than a whole life. This worksheet teaches the features of a memoir – first person, sensory detail, real feelings, and reflection – and guides students to plan one of their own.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box explains a memoir with labeled examples of its focus, voice, and reflection. Section A has eight questions about the form. Section B on page 2 has four planning and drafting tasks, including a hook and a reflection sentence.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with answers for every question and sample responses. The worksheet pairs well with the Writing an Autobiography and Personal Narrative worksheets.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box and review the features of a memoir.
Answer the eight questions in Section A on page 1.
Plan and draft part of your memoir in Section B on page 2.
