About this worksheet
A fairy tale is a short make-believe story full of magic. It often begins “Once upon a time” and includes magical characters such as royalty, fairies, or talking animals. The hero faces a problem, magic or a clever idea helps solve it, and the story ends happily ever after. This worksheet helps students learn the parts and plan a fairy tale of their own.
Section A on page 1 asks eight short questions about how a fairy tale works. The reference box shows the parts with a shoemaker-and-the-elves example, so students have the information they need to answer.
Section B on page 2 has students plan their own fairy tale – an opening line, a magical character, a problem and its magic, and a happy ending. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds on narrative and creative writing.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and point out the four parts of the fairy tale.
