About this worksheet
A diamante is a seven-line poem shaped like a diamond. It usually begins with one noun and ends with the opposite noun, while the lines in between move from one subject to the other: line 1 is a noun, lines 2 and 6 give two adjectives, lines 3 and 5 give three -ing action words, and line 4 holds four nouns that bridge the two subjects. This worksheet helps students learn the pattern and write a diamante of their own.
Section A on page 1 asks eight short questions about how a diamante works. The reference box shows the pattern line by line with a DAY-to-NIGHT example, so students have the information they need to answer.
Section B on page 2 has students choose two opposite nouns and build each line of their own diamante to match the pattern. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds on poetry writing.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and read the DAY-to-NIGHT diamante line by line.
Count the words on each line to confirm the pattern (1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1).
Complete Section A independently.
Have students pick two opposite nouns and draft their own diamante in Section B, then read it aloud.
