About this worksheet
A bibliography is the list at the end of a report that names every source you used and gives enough detail for a reader to find each one. A book entry usually needs the author, title, publisher, and year; a website entry usually needs the author or group, the page title, the web address, and the date you visited. This worksheet helps students learn which details belong where, then build entries of their own.
Section A on page 1 lists eight details and asks students to label each one as belonging with a book entry, a website entry, or both. The reference box teaches the format with a sample book entry that is not reused in any item.
Section B on page 2 asks students why a report needs a bibliography, which details a website entry needs that a book entry does not, and to write one book entry and one website entry from given facts. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill builds toward research writing and citing sources.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and point out the parts of the sample book entry.
Complete Section A independently – have students ask ‘does a book have this, a website, or both?’
Work Section B item 11 together: write the book entry for the Chen ‘Deserts’ book.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check; entry wording may vary slightly.
Pair with the Using Text Evidence Worksheet or the Paraphrasing Worksheet for a research mini-unit.
