About this worksheet
Proofreading is the last step of writing – reading carefully to catch surface mistakes before sharing your work. This worksheet teaches students to spot and name the most common error types (spelling, capitalization, and punctuation) and then to fix them by rewriting.
Section A gives eight sentences, each with exactly one error, and asks students to name the error type. The mix balances spelling slips (beutiful, recieved, frend), capitalization misses (a lowercase sentence start, an uncapitalized place name), and missing end punctuation, so students practice telling the categories apart. The reference box defines the error types with a my-freind-lives-in-texas example not reused in any item.
Section B raises the difficulty: each sentence has several mistakes at once, and students rewrite it completely correct. Page 3 is a complete answer key. Proofreading is the skill that turns a rough draft into finished work.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and model proofreading the texas example by pointing at each word.
Complete Section A independently – have students find the single error and name its type.
Work Section B item 1 together: fix every mistake in the my-freind sentence.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
Pair with the Editing and Revising Worksheet or the Capitalization Worksheet for a revision mini-unit.
