Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
Students who have written a friendly letter still have to get it delivered. The diagram on page 1 shows a fully addressed envelope with five parts numbered: the return address in the top left, the stamp in the top right, the mailing address in the middle, and the city and state and the ZIP code on its last line.
Section A is the labeling task with a shuffled word bank. Section B on page 2 asks which part each sentence describes, and Section C has the student address an envelope from a name and address given in prose, then explain why a return address and a stamp both matter. Page 3 is the answer key.
It is the practical companion to the friendly letter and business letter sheets: those teach what goes inside, this one teaches what goes on the outside.
How to Use This Lesson
Bring a real addressed envelope to compare with the diagram if you can.
Read the reference box, then have students label the five parts.
Work Section B independently.
Have students write the address in Section C on a real envelope.
