How it works

Three steps from a word list to a printed worksheet.

1

Enter words and meanings

Start from a ready-made grade-level set, or paste your own list — one word per line, then a colon or a dash, then its meaning. Up to 15 words.

2

Pick an activity

Match words to meanings, write the word for each meaning, or use each word in a sentence — or Mixed practice, which puts all three on one sheet.

3

Generate and print

Print the worksheet with its answer key, or press New version for the same words in a fresh order.

Grade level and skills

Works for Grades 2 through 8 — the word list does the differentiating. Use it for this week’s vocabulary unit, content-area terms in science or social studies, or a set of your own.

Classroom ideas

Ways teachers put a vocabulary generator to work.

Weekly unit

One set, a week of practice

Paste this week’s words and meanings once, then print a different activity each day — matching Monday, write-the-word Tuesday, sentences Wednesday.

Any subject

Practice content-area terms

Drop in the key terms from a science or social studies chapter and print a vocabulary sheet for a subject that has none built in.

Homework and review

A fresh sheet any night

Press New version and the order and matching change, so students learn the words instead of memorizing one page.

Sub days and early finishers

Something ready on the shelf

Keep a printed stack of matching and write-the-word sheets for substitutes, indoor recess, and early finishers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to type my own words?

No. Pick from ready-made Grades 2–3, 4–5, and 6–8 vocabulary sets — each fills the box with ten words and kid-friendly meanings, and you can edit them from there.

How do I enter my own words?

One per line: the word first, then a colon (or a dash), then its meaning — for example, abundant: present in large amounts. Up to 15 words. Your list stays on the page: it is never stored or tracked.

What activities does it make?

Three: match words to their meanings, write the word for each meaning, and use each word in a sentence. Mixed practice puts all three on one sheet as Parts A to C.

Does it include an answer key?

Yes. Every worksheet comes with a matching answer key on its own page. The sentence activity has no single right answer, so the key says answers will vary rather than padding the page.

What if two words mean the same thing?

The generator checks its own puzzles: two words with the same meaning would make matching impossible, so it uses the first and names the rest on your answer key. A word with no meaning typed in is still used in the sentence activity.
