How it works
Three steps from blank page to printed worksheet.
Choose a skill and a number size
Pick Compare, Order, or both on one sheet as Parts A and B. Then choose numbers from single digits up to hundred thousands.
Set the difficulty
Easy numbers look very different at a glance; hard numbers share every digit but the last, so students have to compare digit by digit.
Generate and print
Print the worksheet and key together, or press New version for a completely fresh set of numbers.
Grade level and skills
Best for Kindergarten through Grade 5. Start with small, very different numbers, then raise the difficulty so students must compare digit by digit instead of guessing from the length of the number.
- Greater than and less than
- Equal comparisons
- Ordering numbers
- Place value sense
- Multi-digit numbers
- Digit-by-digit comparison

Classroom ideas
Ways teachers put a comparing-numbers generator to work.
One skill at a time
Build up in order
Start with easy compare pairs, then raise the difficulty so numbers share more digits, then move on to ordering a whole set.
Differentiation
Same skill, three difficulty levels
Print an easy version and a hard version of the same skill so every group gets numbers that are actually close together — or actually easy.
Words or symbols
Match your class’s stage
Younger students can write greater than and less than in words; older students can move straight to >, <, and =, or practice both together.
Daily practice
A fresh sheet every morning
Generate a new set for morning work or homework — never the same numbers twice, so students practice the skill instead of memorizing the page.
Frequently asked questions
Does it include an answer key?
Yes. Every worksheet comes with a matching answer key on its own page, with the same item numbers as the student sheet.
What skills does it cover?
Two: Compare two numbers with >, <, or =, and Order a set of numbers from least to greatest or greatest to least. Both skills puts them on one sheet as Parts A and B.
How does the difficulty setting work?
Easy numbers are drawn independently, so they usually look different at a glance. Hard numbers share every leading digit except the last, so the only way to compare them is digit by digit — the case that separates students who understand place value from students who are guessing.
Can students write the comparison in words?
Yes. Choose symbol only (>, <, =), words only (greater than, less than, equal to), or both together.
Will every question have a clear winner?
Only if you want it to. Turn equal comparisons off and no pair is ever equal; leave it on and a controlled share of the pairs will be equal, so students cannot assume every question has one.
