About this worksheet
The letter y is a consonant at the start of a word like yes, but elsewhere it often acts as a vowel. This worksheet teaches the three vowel sounds y can make: long i at the end of a one-syllable word, long e at the end of a longer word, and short i in the middle.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box explains how y acts as a vowel with examples. Section A asks students to write the sound y makes in eight words. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with answers for every item. The worksheet pairs well with the Long and Short Vowels and Vowel Teams worksheets.
How to Use This Lesson
