About this worksheet

A trigraph is three letters that work together to make one sound, such as igh in night, dge in badge, and tch in catch. This worksheet teaches students to spot these three common trigraphs and the sound each one makes.

The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box explains trigraphs with examples. Section A asks students to find the trigraph in eight words and name its sound. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.

Page 3 is a complete answer key with answers for every item. The worksheet pairs well with the Consonant Digraphs and Vowel Teams worksheets.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box and review the trigraphs igh, dge, and tch.

Find the trigraph in each word in Section A on page 1 and name its sound.
