What’s Included
This printable packet contains twenty crossword puzzles — two for each of our ten SAT lessons — covering all 249 words in the series. Every puzzle gives you a set of definition clues, split into Across and Down, and an interlocking grid to fill in. A complete answer key at the back lists the solution for every clue, so you can check your work or study from the solved grids.
Why Crossword Practice Works for the SAT
A crossword clue gives you the meaning and asks you to produce the word — the exact direction of recall the SAT demands when a hard word appears in a passage. Retrieving a word from its definition, rather than just recognizing it on a list, is one of the most effective ways to move vocabulary into long-term memory.
- Active recall, not recognition. Working from a definition to the word forces real retrieval — far stronger than re-reading a word list.
- Reinforces spelling. Filling the grid means spelling each SAT word correctly, letter by letter.
- Crossing letters teach as you go. The interlocking grid confirms a right answer and flags a wrong one, so every near-miss becomes a lesson.
- Repetition that feels like a game. Puzzles make students want to do more practice — the reps that actually build a vocabulary.
