About this worksheet
Knowing whether a syllable is open or closed helps students decode and spell words. This worksheet teaches that closed syllables end in a consonant (short vowel) and open syllables end in a vowel (long vowel).
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box explains open and closed syllables with examples. Section A asks students to label eight words open or closed. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.
