Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

Sorting asks which box a picture goes in. This asks the harder question underneath it: what do these pictures have in common? A child has to hold three or four pictures in mind at once and find the one word that covers all of them.

Section A gives rows of three pictures and Section B rows of four, so the task gets harder without the directions changing. The groups are animals, things that go, and things in the sky.

The word bank is repeated on page two, and the answer key on page three names the group for every row.

How to Use This Lesson

Print the worksheet. The word bank is on both working pages.

Read the three group words aloud together before students begin.

Model one row: name each picture, then say what they all are.

Check the answers against page three.
