About this worksheet

This word search hides 8 fall words in a 10 by 10 grid of big letters. Every word runs across or down, never backward or on a slant, which is the right first puzzle for young readers. Every word appears exactly once.

Page 2 is a spelling page: students write the missing letter in each of the eight words and then write the whole word, with the word bank printed again at the top, so the words are spelled and not only spotted. Page 3 is the answer key.

It comes in two editions: a color PDF, whose answer key outlines each word in orange, and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the word bank aloud together, pointing to each word.

Find and circle each word. Words go across and down.

Write the missing letter in each word on page 2.

Check the puzzle and the missing letters against page 3.
