About this worksheet

When you add a suffix to a word ending in silent e, you drop the e before a vowel suffix like -ing or -ed, but keep it before a consonant suffix like -ly or -ment. This worksheet teaches the rule and has students apply it.

The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box states the rule with examples. Section A has eight words to add suffixes to. Section B on page 2 has four short questions.

Page 3 is a complete answer key. The worksheet pairs well with the Adding Suffixes and Doubling the Final Consonant worksheets.
