About this worksheet
Adding a suffix often changes a word’s spelling. This worksheet teaches two key rules – drop the silent e before a vowel ending, and change y to i before endings like -ed, -es, and -er.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box explains both rules with examples. Section A asks students to add the ending to eight words. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with answers for every item. The worksheet pairs well with the Doubling the Final Consonant and Prefixes worksheets.
