What the substitute gets

Page 1 is a plan, not a worksheet: a schedule with timings, what to hand out and when, what to collect, what to do with a child who finishes early, and a space to write back to the returning teacher. Everything after it is the work itself.

  • Warm-Up — ten minutes, page two
  • Reading: “Symbols of Our Country” (social studies) — thirty minutes, page three and four
  • Math — thirty minutes, page five
  • Writing — thirty minutes, page six
  • Word Work — twenty minutes, page seven
  • Afternoon Reading: “What Magnets Do” (science) — thirty minutes, page eight and nine
  • Math Word Problems — thirty minutes, page ten
  • Magnet Hunt — thirty minutes, page eleven
  • Wrap-Up — ten minutes, page twelve
  • Early Finisher — spare time, page thirteen

How to use it

Print the packet and put it in the substitute folder. Nothing needs preparing, copying, or looking up, and nothing depends on what the class was working on — so the same folder works on a day nobody saw coming. Pull the answer key off the back before the packet is handed out.

Teacher notes. Day 5 of 5. Page 1 is yours: the classroom details to fill in, the schedule, the notes, and a space to write back to the returning teacher. Pages 2-13 are the student work; pages 14 and 15 are the answer key and the marking notes. Nothing here continues a lesson, needs preparation, or assumes the guest teacher knows the class. Student working time is about 220 minutes across 9 blocks.
