About this worksheet

World War I (1914 to 1918) was one of the deadliest conflicts in history, pulling in nations across the globe through a tangle of alliances. This worksheet builds the vocabulary students need – the Allies, the Central Powers, trench warfare, armistice, and the Treaty of Versailles – and checks their understanding.

The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box defines eight terms about World War I. Section A has eight clue-matching items. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions about the sides, alliances, trench warfare, and how the war ended.

Page 3 is a complete answer key with the term for each clue and a sample answer for every short-response question. The worksheet pairs well with the World War II and The Industrial Revolution worksheets.
