Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

A landmark is a famous place or structure that helps us recognize a country or city. Some are human-made, like the Statue of Liberty, and others are natural, like a great mountain. This worksheet helps students connect well-known world landmarks to the countries where they are found.

Section A on page 1 gives eight landmarks – the Pyramids of Giza, the Taj Mahal, the Colosseum, Big Ben, Machu Picchu, and more – and asks students to name the country. The reference box teaches the idea with the Eiffel Tower and the Great Wall, which are not reused in any item.

Section B on page 2 asks what a landmark is, names a landmark and its country, gives natural and human-made examples, and asks why a country is proud of its landmarks. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds toward world geography and cultures.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box aloud and find a few of the countries on a world map.

Complete Section A independently – have students picture each famous landmark.

Discuss which landmarks are natural and which are human-made.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.

Pair with the Continents and Oceans Worksheet or the Customs and Traditions Worksheet.
