About this worksheet

During the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union raced to lead in space exploration. This worksheet teaches the key people and events of the Space Race – Sputnik, NASA, astronauts, Apollo 11, and Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the Moon.

The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box tells the story of the Space Race and includes a black-and-white rocket-launch illustration. Section A has eight clues to match to the correct term. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions about the two countries, Sputnik, Apollo 11, and why reaching the Moon mattered.

Page 3 is a complete answer key with the term for every clue and sample short answers. The worksheet pairs well with the Cold War and Solar System worksheets.
