Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

To make goods and services, people use three kinds of productive resources. Natural resources come from nature (water, soil, trees); human resources are the people whose work and skills make things (a farmer, a baker); and capital resources are the tools, machines, and buildings used to produce (a tractor, an oven, a factory). This worksheet teaches students to tell the three apart.

Section A lists eight examples (a river used to water crops, a carpenter, a hammer, iron ore) and asks students to label each natural, human, or capital. The reference box defines the three types with a baker-oven-wheat example but names none of the eight Section A items.

Section B is short-answer. Students list the three types, contrast natural and capital resources, give a human-resource example, break down the resources a baker uses, and reason about a computer used at a job. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill is a core economics idea that builds toward how goods are produced.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box aloud and sort a few classroom items into the three resource types.

Complete Section A independently – have students ask ‘from nature, a person, or a made tool?’

Work Section B item 12 together: break a bakery into its human, capital, and natural resources.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.

Pair with the Goods and Services Worksheet or the Producers and Consumers Worksheet for an economics mini-unit.
