About this worksheet
A natural feature is part of the land made by nature without help from people, while a human-made feature is something built by people to use or enjoy. This worksheet gives young students practice sorting common features of the land into the two groups, a foundational geography skill.
Section A gives eight features (A tall mountain; A concrete bridge over a river) and asks students to label each natural or human-made. The reference box teaches the idea with a waterfall and a tunnel through a hill, examples not reused in the items.
Section B asks students to define each kind of feature, classify a lake with their reasoning, and name a human-made feature in their town. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill builds toward map reading and understanding how people change the land.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and ask ‘did nature make it, or did people build it?’
Complete Section A independently – have students picture each feature.
Work Section B item 11 together: discuss why most lakes are natural.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
Pair with the Landforms Worksheet or the Map Skills Worksheet for a geography mini-unit.
