About this worksheet
Money is something people agree to accept in exchange for goods and services. It makes trading easier than barter because everyone accepts it, it is easy to carry, and it can be saved. Currency is the specific coins and paper bills a country uses, such as the U.S. dollar. This worksheet teaches students what money is and how currencies differ.
Section A gives eight true-or-false statements about money and currency, mixing facts with misconceptions (money makes trading harder; every country uses the same currency). The reference box teaches the idea and notes that long ago people used shells, beads, or gold.
Section B asks students to define money, explain the difference between money and currency, give a reason money beats barter, and name a currency from another country. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill is a foundation of economics.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and list the three jobs money does.
Complete Section A independently – have students fix each false statement.
Work Section B item 10 together: state the difference between money and currency.
