About this worksheet
An entrepreneur is a person who starts and runs their own business, coming up with an idea, gathering what they need, and risking their own time and money in hopes of a profit. Not every worker is an entrepreneur – the entrepreneur is the one who owns and runs the business. This worksheet teaches students to tell entrepreneurs apart from hired workers.
Section A gives eight people (Rosa opens her own flower shop; Ken is hired as a cashier) and asks students to write yes or no for whether each is an entrepreneur. The reference box teaches the idea with a lemonade-stand and a bakery-owner example using people different from the items.
Section B asks students to define an entrepreneur, name the risk they take, give one way entrepreneurs help the economy, and describe a business of their own. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill connects to producers, goods and services, and jobs.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and stress that an entrepreneur OWNS and runs the business.
Complete Section A independently – have students ask ‘did this person start their own business?’
Work Section B item 9 together: write a class definition of an entrepreneur.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
Pair with the Goods and Services Worksheet or the Jobs and Careers Worksheet for an economics mini-unit.
