About this worksheet
Culture is the way of life a group of people shares, and customs and traditions are the parts of culture passed down from older people to younger ones. Culture includes food, language, clothing, and celebrations. Many cultures live side by side in one country, and learning about other customs helps us understand and respect people who are different from us. This worksheet teaches the parts of culture.
Section A gives eight examples (a holiday dish; the words a family speaks; a traditional festival outfit; a yearly parade) and asks students to label each part of culture: food, language, clothing, or celebration. The reference box teaches the parts of culture with a respectful, general approach and uses different examples than the items.
Section B is short-answer. Students define culture and tradition, name three parts of culture, explain why learning about others matters, share a family tradition, and describe how traditions are passed down. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill builds cultural awareness and respect.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and ask students to name a custom or tradition they know.
Complete Section A independently – have students ask ‘is this food, language, clothing, or a celebration?’
Discuss Section B item 13 (a family tradition) as a respectful class share.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
Pair with the American Holidays Worksheet or the Communities Worksheet for a culture mini-unit.
