About this worksheet
Mesopotamia, the ‘land between rivers,’ is often called the cradle of civilization because cities first grew there. This worksheet teaches the Tigris and Euphrates, the Fertile Crescent, the people of Sumer, city-states, cuneiform writing, ziggurats, and the laws of Hammurabi.
Section A on page 1 gives eight clues, and students write the term each one describes. The reference box names and defines each term, so students have what they need to match.
Section B on page 2 asks why Mesopotamia was called the land between rivers, why the Fertile Crescent was good for farming, what cuneiform was, and why written laws mattered. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The worksheet pairs well with the Ancient Egypt and Ancient China worksheets.
