About this worksheet

Ancient China was one of the world’s oldest civilizations, growing up along the Huang He, or Yellow River. This worksheet teaches its dynasties and emperors, the Great Wall, the Silk Road, the teacher Confucius, and famous Chinese inventions such as paper and the compass.

Section A on page 1 gives eight clues, and students write the term each one describes. The reference box names and explains each term, so students have what they need to match.

Section B on page 2 asks why the Huang He mattered, why the Great Wall was built, who Confucius was, and what the Silk Road was used for. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The worksheet pairs well with the Ancient Egypt and Ancient Mesopotamia worksheets.

Complete Section A on page 1 – match each clue to one term.

Discuss how the Great Wall and the Silk Road shaped China.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.
