Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
Weather is the first science a young child notices, and it is one they can already talk about before they can read a word about it. This sheet asks for the weather word behind a picture — sun, rain, cloud, storm, snow — and then turns the question around: here is an umbrella, so what was the weather?
Nothing on the page has to be read. Section A shows five weather pictures and a five-word bank. Section B shows six things a person wears, carries or makes, and asks which weather each one belongs to, which is the same idea used as evidence rather than as a label.
The word bank is repeated on page two, because a child writing on the second sheet of paper cannot see the first one. The answer key on page three names the weather beside every picture.
How to Use This Lesson
Print the worksheet. The word bank is in the box on page one.
Read the five weather words aloud together before students begin.
Look out of the window first and name today’s weather as a class.
Check the answers against page three.
