Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

The nervous system controls the body and carries messages between the brain and every other part of the body. This worksheet teaches the main parts – the brain, the spinal cord, nerves, and neurons – along with reflexes and the sense organs that gather information about the world.

Section A on page 1 gives eight clues, and students write the nervous-system term each one describes. The reference box names and explains each part, so students have the information they need to match.

Section B on page 2 asks the main job of the nervous system, how the brain and body send messages, what a reflex is and why it helps, and why the brain is the control center. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The worksheet pairs well with the Circulatory and Respiratory System worksheets.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box aloud and trace a message from a sense organ to the brain and back.

Complete Section A independently – have students match each clue to one term.

Discuss a reflex and why a fast, automatic response protects the body.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.

Pair with the Circulatory System Worksheet or the Five Senses Worksheet.
