Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

Seed dispersal is the way seeds move away from the parent plant so new plants have room, light, and water to grow. Because plants cannot move, they use four main ways to send their seeds to new places: wind, water, animals, and explosion. This worksheet helps students recognize each method from a short example.

Section A on page 1 gives eight short examples, and students write which method moves the seed. The reference box explains the four methods, so students have the information they need to decide.

Section B on page 2 asks why plants spread their seeds, how wind moves seeds, one way animals help, and how water moves a seed. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The worksheet pairs well with the Plant Life Cycle and Pollination worksheets.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box aloud and name the four ways seeds travel.

Complete Section A independently – have students name the method for each example.

Discuss why a seed that lands far from its parent has a better chance to grow.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.

Pair with the Plant Life Cycle Worksheet or the Pollination Worksheet.
