About this worksheet
Rotation is when an object spins around its own axis – Earth’s rotation gives us day and night – while revolution is when one object travels in an orbit around another, as Earth revolves around the Sun once a year. This worksheet helps students keep the two motions straight, a common point of confusion in space science.
Section A gives eight descriptions (Earth spinning on its axis once a day; Earth traveling around the Sun once a year) and asks students to label each rotation or revolution. The reference box teaches the idea with a spinning ice skater and a race car on a track, examples not reused in the items.
Section B asks students to contrast the two motions, name what rotation causes, give the length of one revolution, and classify a spinning basketball with a reason. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill builds toward understanding day and night, seasons, and orbits.
