Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
An endangered species is a living thing at risk of dying out. This worksheet teaches what endangered and extinct mean, the causes of species loss – habitat loss, poaching, and pollution – and how conservation protects biodiversity.
Section A on page 1 gives eight clues, and students write the term each one describes. The reference box names and defines each term, so students have what they need to match.
Section B on page 2 asks what endangered means, two reasons a species becomes endangered, how endangered differs from extinct, and for an example of conservation. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The worksheet pairs well with the Biomes and Food Web worksheets.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and name an endangered animal students know.
Complete Section A on page 1 – match each clue to one term.
Discuss the difference between endangered and extinct.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.
