Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
Every flowering plant is a team of parts, and each part has a job to do. The roots anchor the plant and drink up water, the stem carries that water upward and holds the plant high, the leaves turn sunlight into food, and the flower makes the seeds that become the next generation of plants. Understanding these jobs helps students see a plant as a living system rather than a single green thing.
Section A lists 8 job descriptions and asks students to write which part – roots, stem, leaves, or flower – does each one. Section B moves to four short-response questions that ask students to name the parts, explain why roots and leaves are essential, and describe how flowers keep plants going into the future.
The reference box on page 1 names the four main parts and the job of each. Section A is on page 1, Section B short responses are on page 2, and page 3 is a complete answer key with the part for each Section A clue and sample answers for Section B.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and, if possible, show a real plant or a diagram while naming each part.
Work Section A independently; have students point to where each part would be on a plant as they answer.
Move to Section B and model item 1 by listing the four parts in order from the ground up.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or aide spot-check.
Pair with the Plant Life Cycle Worksheet or Photosynthesis Worksheet for more plant-science practice.
