Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
Before students use a microscope they have to be able to name what they are touching. The diagram on page 1 shows a compound microscope from the side with six parts numbered: the eyepiece at the top, the body tube below it, the objective lens above the stage, the stage itself, the focus knob on the arm, and the wide base.
Section A is the labeling task with a shuffled word bank. Section B on page 2 asks which part does each job, and Section C asks three questions about using the instrument safely and reading it when something goes wrong. Page 3 is the answer key.
The sheet pairs with any lab that starts with a microscope on the bench. It teaches the names and the jobs; the lab supplies the specimen.
How to Use This Lesson
Set a real microscope where students can see it while they work if one is available.
Read the reference box, then have students label the diagram.
Work Section B, then talk through the safety reasoning in Section C.
Keep the labeled page beside the microscope during the next lab.
