About this worksheet
Sir Isaac Newton described three laws that explain how forces change motion. The first law is the law of inertia, the second law links force to mass and acceleration, and the third law says every action has an equal and opposite reaction. This worksheet helps students recognize each law in everyday events.
Section A on page 1 gives eight examples, and students write first, second, or third law for each. The reference box teaches all three with a rolling-ball example, a loaded-cart example, and a swimmer example, so the assessed examples stay independent of the model.
Section B on page 2 asks what the first law says about an object at rest, why the second law makes heavy objects harder to speed up, the third law in the student’s own words, and a new example of the third law. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds on force and motion.
