About this worksheet
Mass is the amount of matter in an object, and it stays the same no matter where the object is – we measure it in grams and kilograms. Weight is the pull of gravity on that mass, and it changes when gravity changes, which is why an object weighs less on the Moon. This worksheet helps students keep these two ideas straight.
Section A on page 1 gives eight statements and asks students to label each one mass or weight. The reference box teaches the difference with a brick on Earth versus the Moon, which is not reused in any item.
Section B on page 2 asks students for the difference, why an object weighs less on the Moon but keeps its mass, which is measured in kilograms, and what changes when a backpack travels to the Moon. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds toward understanding gravity and measurement.
How to Use This Lesson
