About this worksheet
Gravity is a force that pulls objects toward each other; on Earth it pulls everything down toward the center of the planet. That is why dropped things fall and why a thrown ball comes back down. Gravity also gives objects their weight and keeps the Moon orbiting Earth. This worksheet teaches the key facts and clears up common misconceptions.
Section A gives eight true/false statements about gravity, mixing correct facts (gravity pulls down; weight is the pull of gravity) with common errors (gravity pushes up; gravity only works on heavy objects; gravity stops at night). Students decide true or false. The reference box teaches the facts but phrases the statements differently.
Section B is short-answer. Students define gravity and its direction, define weight, explain why a thrown ball falls, and name one thing gravity does in space. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill builds on force and motion and supports earth-and-space science.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and drop a small object to show gravity pulling down.
Complete Section A independently – have students test each statement against the reference.
Discuss the false statements (gravity does not push up, work only on heavy things, or stop at night).
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
Pair with the Force and Motion Worksheet or the Solar System Worksheet for a physical-science mini-unit.
